The Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNIS) manages the national competitive funds and the participation in EU programmes [56]. Compared to its population, Iceland has the largest percentage of its population using the Internet [62].
According to the "Measuring the Information Society Report" launched during the World Telecommunication - ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) in 2016, Iceland has the most developed information and communication technology infrastructure in Europe, and the second most developed in the world [57][60]. The CEO of Reykjavik Fiber Network has even stated that Iceland is the best place to launch Internet of Things, Smart Cities and Smart Communities [61].
